Moving off Durable: how to take your website with you

Durable's help centre has a CSV export for customer contacts. We found no way to download the site itself. Copy your text and images by hand, keep your domain and URLs, and rebuild the pages in your next tool.

Can you export a Durable website?

Your contacts export as a CSV. In the Contacts dashboard, select the contacts you want, click the Download icon, and Durable gives you a file that opens in any spreadsheet. Durable's pricing FAQ calls the product no-code and says it does not offer extensive options for HTML customization.

Everything else comes across by hand. Copy your text, images, page settings and tracking snippets, then build the pages again.

Durable's terms say you keep ownership of the content you upload and that you own the output its service generates for you. Ownership does not hand you downloadable site files.

What can you take with you?

Text, images and page settings come out by copying. Your contact list downloads as a CSV file, and your domain moves with a transfer or a DNS change. Plan to rebuild the layout in your next tool.

Does Durable's free plan allow a custom domain?

No. The free plan gives you a private preview of your site on a durable.site address. Durable's AI website builder page says you connect or buy a custom domain on a paid plan, and the pricing page agrees: the custom domain row says Private preview under Free, and the rows for buying a domain and connecting one you own show a dash.

Launch lists a domain credit of up to $20 and Grow up to $40. The pricing FAQ says custom domains are free with every Durable subscription. Every site also keeps a preview domain, which Durable's article on managing domains says is not meant for customers or public use.

What to collect before you leave Durable

Collect everything while your subscription is active. After you cancel, your account and site stay available until the billing period ends, and you can resume at any time. Deleting the business is final: Durable's help article says it permanently removes the business profile, website, customers, assets and subscriptions. Keep the business until the new site is live and you are happy with it.

  • Pages: list every page with its address. Durable generates a sitemap at yourdomain.com/sitemap that lists them.
  • Text: paste each page's text and headings into one document, in page order, with the page address above each.
  • Images: gather your original files, your logo and your favicon. Durable's terms say the images it supplies are Durable's property, and that the Getty Images, Unsplash and Shutterstock pictures once offered in Durable are for use inside Durable. Replace those with your own photos or images you hold a licence for.
  • Page settings: copy each page's title, meta description and URL slug.
  • Forms and customers: note each form's fields and where its messages go. Download the Customers list as a CSV and open the file to check it holds what you need.
  • Redirects and tracking: copy everything in Website, Settings, Custom Code, including redirect scripts and analytics tags.
  • Domain: check whether Durable registered it or you connected one from another registrar. Contact Durable support to move a domain registered through Durable.

How to migrate from Durable to iter0, step by step

These steps rebuild your pages in iter0 from your site's address and the text you collected. iter0 can publish one site at its own <name>.iter0.app address. You can also export the HTML and CSS files and host them anywhere.

  • Step 1. Finish the collection above and decide which pages to rebuild. iter0 charges one credit for a complete single-page build and half a credit for an AI edit. Free includes 3 credits a month, Hobby ($5) 15 and Pro ($25) 100. Manual edits, saves and undo are free.
  • Step 2. Open the redesign flow in the iter0 builder. It takes two public web addresses, and they must be different sites: a design reference you are allowed to use, and the site whose content you want to keep. Your live Durable address goes in the content field. The flow builds one page, so start with your home page and add the rest as in step 5. The builder shows the credit price and asks you to confirm before it starts.
  • Step 3. Check the result page by page against your copy document: business name, phone, address, hours, prices, service names, links and headings. Fix text by hand for free, or ask for an AI edit at half a credit.
  • Step 4. If the result misses most of a page, start that page from a description. Tell the Launch CEO what you sell and it asks one question at a time to settle the buyer, the offer and the proof before it builds. Paste in the text you saved.
  • Step 5. Add the remaining pages with the + button. Every page keeps one header, footer and style.
  • Step 6. To publish, choose a site address in the builder and press Publish. It costs no credits and needs a confirmed email address. Check images, fonts and links before you publish.
  • Step 7. To host the site yourself, export it while signed in. Open Projects and use the project's menu: Export HTML for a single page, or Export site (.zip) for a multi-page site. The zip holds one HTML file per page (index.html at the top level and one folder for each other page), a shared stylesheet, and files that describe the site's design and pages. The export strips scripts, iframes, embeds and inline event handlers from the HTML, except iter0's own phone-menu script. Paste your analytics tag and any embedded widgets back in once the files are hosted.
  • Step 8. Host the files wherever you like. The zip holds plain files, so any static host can serve them. Point your domain at the host you choose, and connect a form service if your old site took enquiries.
  • Step 9. Set up your redirects and submit your new sitemap, as the next section explains.

How to keep your URLs and your domain

Aim to keep the same domain and the same paths on the new host, and there is nothing to redirect. Compare each old address with the new page's route. iter0 exports the route /services as services/index.html, and a static host serves a folder's index.html at the folder's address, so the page answers at /services.

If you publish with iter0, your site moves to a new domain, so every page URL changes. If you export the files instead, you host them where you choose and point your own domain at that host.

Where an address changes, write a one-to-one list of old address and new address. Send each old address to its closest new page, and send the homepage to the homepage. Google's guide to site moves says to use server-side permanent redirects (301 or 308), keep them for at least a year, and submit the new sitemap in Search Console. It treats client-side redirects as a last resort. The Change of Address tool in Search Console is for a move to a different domain or subdomain.

Redirects you set inside Durable stop working once your domain points at another host. Changing a page's slug offers a checkbox that creates a 301 redirect, and Durable's help article on missing pages uses a JavaScript snippet in the head code, which redirects in the browser. Set your redirects at the new host instead.

A domain you connected from another registrar stays registered there. Durable shows the DNS records that point it at Durable, and you replace them with your new host's records. A domain registered through Durable moves through Durable support. The transfer policy asks for an active subscription of at least three consecutive months and an account in good standing. The pricing FAQ says to get in touch when you cancel, and that the transfer takes a couple of weeks.

If your site has always used a durable.site address, there is no domain to carry over, so your URLs change. Ask Durable support whether the old address can redirect to your new site.

What to ask Durable support

You reach Durable support through live chat in the dashboard (Help, then Live chat) or by email. Send the message below and keep the reply in writing.

Hello Durable support,

I run a Durable website at [your site address] and I am planning to move it
to another builder. Please answer in writing:

1. Can I download my website's pages, text, images and layout from Durable,
for example as HTML and CSS files? If yes, where do I find it?
2. If there is no export, can you send me a copy of my site's content, and
what do you recommend for moving?
3. My site uses [a durable.site address / a domain I registered elsewhere /
a domain registered through Durable]. After I move, can the old address
redirect to my new site, and for how long?
4. If I cancel, what happens to my website, my images and my customer list,
and how long are they kept?

Thank you.

When staying on Durable is the better choice

Durable's plans bundle a customer list, bookings on the paid plans, AI tools and hosting with the website. If your business runs on those, moving the website means deciding where each of them goes next. The CSV export covers the customer list.

iter0 designs website pages from your content. iter0 can publish one site at its own <name>.iter0.app address. You can also export the HTML and CSS files and host them anywhere. iter0 is built for tech-startup founders with a product to sell. Durable's home page lists home services, health and wellness, professional services, food and events, pet and auto, and creative businesses. If you run a local service business, Durable is built for you.

A move is a rebuild. You copy your content out, build the pages again and put them live on iter0 or any host you choose. A site that works and that you can edit is worth keeping until you want page files you can hand to a developer or host anywhere. Our guide to Durable alternatives covers other places to go.

AI website redesign

A launch page should make the buyer, promise, proof, and next action obvious. iter0 uses this same standard when it turns a brief or reference site into a builder-ready page.

Common questions

Can I export my Durable website?

Durable's help centre has a CSV export for customer contacts. We found no way to download the site itself. Copy your text, images and page settings by hand, then rebuild the pages. If you want an answer in writing, send Durable support the message on this page.

Does Durable's free plan allow a custom domain?

No. The free plan gives you a private preview on a durable.site address. Custom domains come with paid plans, and the pricing table lists a domain credit of up to $20 on Launch and up to $40 on Grow.

How do I keep my URLs when I leave Durable?

Keep the same domain and the same paths on the new host. Where a path changes, map each old address to its closest new page and set server-side 301 redirects at the new host. Keep them for at least a year, as Google's site-move guide advises.

Can I keep my domain if I leave Durable?

Yes. Durable's pricing FAQ says to get in touch when you cancel and Durable arranges the transfer, which takes a couple of weeks. A domain you connected from another registrar stays with that registrar, so you change its DNS records. For a domain registered through Durable, the transfer policy asks for three consecutive months of an active subscription and an account in good standing.

What does iter0's redesign flow take as input?

Two public web addresses: a design reference you are allowed to use, and your current site as the content source. The two must be different sites. The flow builds one page, shows the credit price and asks you to confirm before it starts. The iter0 export is a zip of HTML and CSS files, plus files that describe the design, that you can host wherever you like.
