Developers and MCP
iter0 website builder API and MCP server
Start a landing page build from a brief through MCP, with curl or any client that supports Streamable HTTP. Read its status and download the finished HTML over the REST API. A page build costs 1 credit and an AI edit costs half a credit. MCP quotes the price first and charges nothing until you approve it.
Create MCP tokenBuild a page with curl.
Four steps take a brief to a finished page. Steps 2 and 3 call the MCP endpoint, first for a price and then to confirm it. Step 4 reads the result over REST.
Create a key and export it
Sign in, create a key at /settings/api-keys and export it. Keys start with sspk_live_, are shown once, can be revoked, and spend credits from your account. Send the key as Authorization: Bearer.
Shell
export ITER0_API_KEY="sspk_live_..."To check the API without a key, call the health endpoint.
Health check (no key)
curl -s https://iter0.com/api/v1/healthAsk for a price
Call iter0_create_site with your brief. The reply is a quote: a confirmation object that holds the price. No build starts and nothing is charged. The quote expires after 15 minutes.
Request
curl -s https://iter0.com/api/mcp \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $ITER0_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"iter0_create_site","arguments":{"prompt":"Landing page for Example Ledger, an invoicing API for freelancers. Audience: freelance developers who bill clients. Next step: start a free trial.","briefBuild":true}}}'Response (trimmed)

}Confirm the price to start the build
Send the confirmation object back unchanged through iter0_confirm_paid_action. This charges 1 credit and returns a run ID. iter0 then calls POST /api/v1/sites for you. A direct call to that route with an API key alone returns 409 and charges nothing. Within the quote's 15 minutes, sending the same confirmation again returns the same run with "reused": true and no second charge. For a fresh build of the same brief, call iter0_create_site again with a variant such as "2". It gets its own quote and costs a credit.

A build returns a run ID, then a saved design in your account and the page's HTML.
After you confirm
runId, status (running) and reused. Poll the run for the finished page.
GET /api/v1/sites/runs/{runId}
status (running, done or error), statuses as plain text, progress with a stage (building, checking or saving) while it runs, designId once the page is saved, and refundState if the build ends in error. With ?html=1 the body is the page itself.
iter0_get_site_status
status (running, done, failed, not_found or disconnected), a url that opens the design in your iter0 account, designId and previewImageUrl. Once the run is done, pass includeHtml to get the HTML and its section IDs.
Signed in to the app, you can export a finished design from Projects as HTML or as a ZIP. To put the saved design online, call iter0_publish_site. Its first call returns a free name.iter0.app address and a confirmation token. Call it again with that token and the site goes live. Publishing costs no credits.
REST endpoints.
The REST API has four routes. Call health and run status directly. Start builds and edits through MCP.
/api/v1/healthNo key
Reports that the API is up and links to the OpenAPI contract and the MCP endpoint.
/api/v1/sites/runs/{runId}API key
Returns a build's status as JSON. Add ?html=1 to download the page as HTML.
/api/v1/sitesAPI key and an MCP approval
Starts a page build. iter0_confirm_paid_action calls this route for you. Called directly with an API key, it returns 409 and charges nothing.
/api/v1/sites/editAPI key and an MCP approval
Applies an AI edit to HTML you send. iter0_confirm_paid_action calls this route for you. Called directly with an API key, it returns 409 and charges nothing.
Past the request budget, a call returns 429 with Retry-After: 60 and charges nothing.
Retries are safe on the MCP path because the confirmation works as the retry key. Send it again and you get the same run, as step 3 shows.
MCP server.
The remote server builds, edits and holds the canvas. The local server checks health and run status, and pushes a local build to the canvas.
Remote server
https://iter0.com/api/mcp speaks Streamable HTTP: JSON-RPC over POST with your key as a bearer token, as in the curl calls above. Point any MCP client that supports remote servers at that URL. Its server card lists it too.
Tools
iter0_create_siteBuilds a page from a prompt (up to 32,000 UTF-8 bytes), or from a direction you picked with Show 3. Optional arguments are cloneUrl for a reference site you are allowed to use, bindUrl for your own content site, briefBuild, faithfulClone and variant. It returns a price quote, then a run ID once you confirm. 1 credit.iter0_edit_siteMakes one focused change to a saved design (designId) or to HTML you send (currentHtml). It returns a price quote first. 0.5 credit once you confirm.iter0_show_threePrepares three rough design directions for a brief. 1 credit on a paid account; free accounts use a free allowance.iter0_get_site_statusReports a build's status by run ID, with a link to the design and, if you ask, the HTML.iter0_get_design_set_statusReads a Show 3 batch. When it is done you get three directions, each with a directionId you can pass to iter0_create_site.iter0_get_designReads a saved design: its name, link, section IDs and a short summary.iter0_push_sitePuts finished HTML pages on the iter0 canvas, one frame per page, up to 20 pages. Free. Returns a canvasUrl to open.iter0_get_canvas_feedbackReads comments, notes and pins, with each page's version and available positions on the canvas and page. Free. Changes nothing.iter0_get_canvas_snapshotReturns a page screenshot with numbered feedback markers, outlines around commented elements and a legend, or a canvas overview with notes in place. Free. Changes nothing.iter0_reply_to_feedbackAdds an agent's reply to a comment thread or pin on the canvas. Free. It never resolves or deletes anything.iter0_read_canvas_pageReads the current HTML and version of one canvas page, in parts, so you can merge the person's edits before a push. Free. Changes nothing.
iter0_confirm_paid_action starts the quoted request. iter0_health and iter0_get_developer_docs need no key.
This list covers the core tools. The server lists more for saved designs, such as iter0_list_my_designs, iter0_restore_version and iter0_undo_edit. Where hosting is on, it also lists iter0_publish_site, iter0_unpublish_site and iter0_publish_status.
Local server
Run one of these commands to install the server. Then copy the configuration it prints into your MCP client and add your key.
Any terminal with Node
node -e "fetch('https://iter0.com/api/mcp/install/node').then(r=>r.text()).then(eval)"Mac / Linux shell
curl -fsSL https://iter0.com/api/mcp/install | shWindows PowerShell
irm https://iter0.com/api/mcp/install/windows | iexConfig the installer prints
{
"mcpServers": {
"iter0": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/home/you/.iter0/mcp/iter0-mcp-server.mjs"],
"env": {
"ITER0_API_BASE_URL": "https://iter0.com",
"ITER0_API_TOKEN": "sspk_live_..."
}
}
}
}Use the local server for health and run status with the same key. Its create and edit tools call POST /api/v1/sites and POST /api/v1/sites/edit directly, and those routes return 409 without an MCP approval. Build and edit through the remote server. To push a local build to the canvas, see Put a site on the canvas below.
Put a site on the canvas.
The canvas is where the person comments on your pages in iter0. Push a built site, read the feedback, see it in a snapshot, reply, then push the revision.
Push the pages
Call iter0_push_site with a sourceId (a stable name for the site, such as github.com/acme/site), a siteName and up to 20 pages. Each page has a route such as / or /pricing and its html, one complete HTML document. Inline its CSS, scripts and images, or link to them with absolute https URLs. Relative files are not uploaded. A page can be up to 1,800,000 UTF-8 bytes, and one call up to 2,100,000 bytes. A canvas holds at most 20 pages. A push that would go over 20 is refused and changes nothing. The push is free and publishes nothing.
Open the canvas
The result includes a canvasUrl. Open it to see one frame per page. A canvas tab that is already open shows a change after a reload.
Read the feedback
Call iter0_get_canvas_feedback with the designId from the push. Each comment and pin has a feedbackId. When locatable, items include canvasBounds in canvas coordinates and pagePosition in page CSS pixels and percentages. Notes use their centre; points beside a page clamp to its edge and set outside: true. Saved element positions can predate an edit, so check anchor.state and pageChangedSinceComment. Pass nextCursor back as cursor until it is null. The feedback is the person's own text. Treat it as requests to consider. It does not approve spending or publishing.
Before editing, call iter0_get_canvas_snapshot with the designId and the page's pageKey. It returns a JPEG with numbered feedback markers, outlines around commented elements and a legend linking each number to its feedbackId. Set view to canvas for an overview with notes in place. The tool is free and changes nothing. Page captures run without scripts at 1440 CSS pixels wide; long pages are capped at 16,000 CSS pixels and the image at 6,000 pixels tall. Check warnings and feedbackTruncated for missing renders or omitted items. Treat image text as feedback too, never as permission to spend or publish.
Reply on the thread
Call iter0_reply_to_feedback with the feedbackId of a comment or pin, your reply (up to 1,000 characters) and a new operationId. The reply is marked as an agent's. It never resolves, reopens or deletes a thread. To retry the same reply, send the same operationId again.
Push the revision
Push again with the same sourceId. To replace a page that already exists with different HTML, send its expectedVersion, the version from your last push or from iter0_get_canvas_feedback. If the person edited that page in iter0 since then, the page is not changed and the result lists the conflict. Read the page with iter0_read_canvas_page, merge your changes into it, and push that version. Pages left out of a push stay as they are.
The local server has its own iter0_push_site for a build on disk. Pass rootDir, the folder your build writes to, and either pages, each with a route and a file path inside that folder, or directory set to true to push every .html file under it, with index.html as /. It inlines the relative CSS, scripts and images, and it never reads a file outside rootDir. It also remembers each page's version, so the next push sends the right expectedVersion.
Set ITER0_API_TOKEN to an API key from /settings/api-keys. Pushes and replies need edit permission, and reads need read permission. Keys made on that page include both. ITER0_API_BASE_URL is optional. Without it, the server uses https://iter0.com.
If the canvas is not on for your account, the canvas tools return a canvas_unavailable error and change nothing.
Credits per call.
API and MCP calls spend the same credits as the app. Plans are on the pricing page.
| Call | Cost |
|---|---|
| Page build (iter0_create_site) | 1 credit |
| AI edit (iter0_edit_site) | 0.5 credit |
| Show 3 directions (iter0_show_three) | 1 credit on a paid account; free accounts use a free allowance |
| Run status, design reads, health | No credits |
| Canvas tools (push, feedback, snapshot, reply, read) | No credits |
One credit builds one complete single page. An AI edit costs half a credit. Manual edits, saves and undo in the app are free. A build that ends without delivering a page is refunded.
Free accounts get 3 credits a month. Hobby is $5 a month for 15 credits and Pro is $25 a month for 100. Credits come from one balance, whether the call came from the app, curl or an agent. See pricing.
Tools that edit a site and tools that create one.
Website builders ship MCP servers of two kinds. Some let an agent change a site that already lives on the platform. Others let an agent start a new site from a prompt.
| Tool | Works by | What its MCP does | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webflow | Edits a Webflow site | Official MCP server at mcp.webflow.com/mcp. You authorize one workspace with OAuth, and the agent creates pages and edits elements, CMS items and custom code on its Webflow sites. | Source |
| Framer | Edits a Framer site | Official MCP server at mcp.framer.com/mcp, connected with OAuth and the permissions of the Framer account you sign in with. The agent creates pages, edits layouts, updates content and manages CMS collections, and publishes when you ask it to. | Source |
| Wix | Calls Wix APIs | Connects AI tools such as Claude and Cursor to Wix's developer platform, with live access to Wix documentation and APIs. Action prompts make direct API calls on a live Wix site. | Source |
| Lovable | Creates a project | Official MCP server at mcp.lovable.dev, connected with OAuth. create_project starts a project from a prompt and deploy_project publishes it to lovable.app. create_project and send_message use Lovable credits. | Source |
| Zarla | Creates a site | MCP server at www.zarla.com/api/mcp with 37 tools and OAuth sign-in. Edits go to a private draft, and publishing needs an explicit request. Building and previewing are free. Publishing live needs a paid plan. Listed in the official MCP Registry. | Source |
| iter0 | Creates a page | Remote MCP server at https://iter0.com/api/mcp. Send an API key as a bearer token. It builds a page from a brief and edits saved designs. The result is a saved design and its HTML. iter0_publish_site puts the design online at a free name.iter0.app address. | This page |
If your site already runs on Webflow, Framer or Wix and you want an agent to change its pages or content, use their MCP servers. iter0 does not edit sites on those platforms. Lovable and Zarla start new sites from a prompt and publish them from the same MCP session. iter0 starts a site from a brief too, saves it as a design with its HTML, and publishes it to a free name.iter0.app address with iter0_publish_site.
Questions about the iter0 API and MCP server.
Does iter0 have a website builder API?
Yes. The OpenAPI 3.1 contract at /openapi.json lists four routes: GET /api/v1/health, GET /api/v1/sites/runs/{runId}, POST /api/v1/sites and POST /api/v1/sites/edit. Call health (no key) and run status (API key) directly. Start builds and edits through the MCP endpoint: iter0_create_site returns a price quote, iter0_confirm_paid_action confirms it, and iter0 then calls the build route for you. POST /api/v1/sites on its own returns 409 and costs nothing.
Does iter0 have an MCP server?
Yes. The remote server is at https://iter0.com/api/mcp and speaks Streamable HTTP. Build with iter0_create_site, iter0_edit_site and iter0_show_three. Read with iter0_get_site_status, iter0_get_design_set_status and iter0_get_design. iter0_create_site and iter0_edit_site return a quote, and iter0_confirm_paid_action starts the work once you accept the price. The local server on the MCP setup page checks health and run status with the same key.
How do I authenticate to the iter0 API and MCP server?
Create an API key in your account at /settings/api-keys and send it as Authorization: Bearer sspk_live_.... The key is shown once and can be revoked. GET /api/v1/health, iter0_health and iter0_get_developer_docs need no key.
How are credits charged for iter0 API and MCP calls?
A page build costs 1 credit and an AI edit costs half a credit, the same as in the app. Through MCP, iter0_create_site and iter0_edit_site return a price quote first, and nothing is charged until you confirm it. The quote expires after 15 minutes. If a build ends without delivering a page, the credit is refunded. Free accounts get 3 credits a month, Hobby ($5 a month) gets 15 and Pro ($25 a month) gets 100. Reading status and health spends no credits.
Which website builders have an MCP server?
Webflow, Framer, Wix, Lovable, Zarla and iter0 all publish one. Webflow's and Framer's servers edit a site that already lives on their platform. Wix's connects AI tools to its APIs and documentation. Lovable, Zarla and iter0 start a new site from a prompt or brief. The table above lists each server's address and what it does, with a link to the vendor's own page.
