Bolt vs Lovable: which fits your website?

Choose Bolt when you want to bring a JavaScript project into a browser builder and keep working on its code. Choose Lovable when a shared workspace and a pool of credits suit the people building your site. Both can build and host a website; neither wins just because its allowance has a bigger number.

Should you use Bolt or Lovable for a website?

Bolt is worth trying first if you already have a JavaScript website and want to import its GitHub repository. Its documentation describes importing an existing repository and working across branches. Lovable is worth trying first if several people will build from one workspace budget: its pricing is based on credits, with unlimited workspace members rather than a charge for each seat. These are reasons to shortlist a tool, not evidence that one produces a better page.

Checked on 3 November 2026. iter0 publishes this comparison. We checked the vendors' documentation and pricing pages; we did not run the same paid build in both tools. Recommendations below follow the documented features.

What do Bolt and Lovable include?

Both go beyond drawing a static mockup. Bolt documents websites and full-stack JavaScript applications. Lovable documents applications with editable code for the pages, backend, database and sign-in. A homepage with a button leading to your existing product does not need all of those parts. A customer portal does.

Read the table by the job you need done. The source links beneath it cover the features and limits in each column.

When is Bolt the better choice?

Choose Bolt if the project must use a JavaScript framework your team already knows. Its supported-technologies page lists Node.js for the backend and browser-native JavaScript frameworks for the frontend. It also states that PHP and Python backends are unsupported. If your current website depends on either, do not treat a repository import as proof the whole project will run.

Bolt also makes sense if you want hosting and a database in the same workspace. Its Cloud documentation says published sites use a bolt.host address and custom domains require a paid plan. It also says a site stops displaying publicly if it reaches its plan's hosting limit, until usage resets. Check that limit against the traffic you intend to send.

When is Lovable the better choice?

Choose Lovable if a founder, designer and developer should share one credit budget while contributing to the project. Its pricing page says adding workspace members does not add a seat charge, although their work uses the shared credits. That is a useful fit for a team whose participation changes during a launch.

You can keep building within Lovable without using GitHub. If a developer joins later, its documented GitHub integration exports and syncs code, and direct code downloads are available on paid plans. This is a way to hand over source files. Moving a working application also requires its database, configuration and services; a code copy alone does not establish that those have moved.

Why are tokens and credits not a price comparison?

A million tokens and thirty credits measure different things. Bolt's pricing describes a token allowance. Lovable's pricing says Default Mode costs vary with the task, while Plan Mode costs one credit per message. Neither allowance tells you what your finished website will cost.

Give each tool the same copy, images and page list. Record the allowance before the build, after the first draft and after one correction. Keep hosting and any external service charges beside those figures. That gives you a cost for your task, rather than a comparison of unrelated units.

Try this website brief in both

For a trial, ask for a homepage for a developer tool using your real product screenshot, approved offer and existing signup URL. Specify that the page should link to your current product and should not create another account system. Then ask each tool to shorten the headline while preserving the screenshot and signup destination.

Open the result at desktop and phone widths. Follow the signup link, inspect the title and description, and make one code change through the documented GitHub connection. If a marketer will maintain the page, let that person make the correction. If the real choice is a visual website editor, use the existing Lovable vs Webflow comparison instead.

Put the brief into practice

A launch page should make the buyer, promise, proof, and next action obvious. iter0 uses this same standard when it turns a brief or reference site into a builder-ready page.

Common questions

Is Bolt or Lovable better for a marketing website?

Try Bolt first for an existing JavaScript repository and Lovable first for a team sharing one credit budget. Both document website building and hosting. Use the same brief and one correction to check whether the person maintaining your page can work in it.

Can I move code out of Bolt or Lovable?

Both document GitHub connections. Bolt can import or create a repository and sync commits. Lovable can export and sync project code; its documentation also lists code downloads on paid plans. A working application's data and services need a separate move.

Is Bolt's free allowance larger than Lovable's?

Their units do not establish that. Bolt lists 1 million tokens a month with daily limits. Lovable lists 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month. Measure what the same brief and correction consume before comparing cost. The dated pricing sources are linked in the article.
