Cursor homepage, decoded: a small headline, a huge preview

A warm off-white page where the headline is modest, the space around it is generous and a very large layered product preview does the work.

What this is, and what it is not

This is iter0's independent analysis of the Cursor homepage as we captured it on 2 Oct 2026, at a 1440px desktop width and a 390px phone width. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or written with Cursor. Everything below comes from a design spec we already hold for the page: its measurements, its layout and what the capture did and did not show. There are no screenshots, logos or marketing copy from Cursor here, and a live site can change at any time.

The big idea of the hero

The headline here is small. At 26px with weight 400 it is a statement, not a display line, and the spec explicitly warns against turning it into big display type. Two pill actions sit under it, and a 1300px by 720px preview of layered application panes over a photographic landscape fills the lower half. The hero section has 112px of top padding, so there is a big gap between the fixed navigation and the headline.

The navigation choice

A thin fixed bar, 52px high, with the same warm background as the page. A compact identity sits at the left, five centred links with 34px hit areas sit in the middle, and an account link, a pale pill and a dark pill sit at the right. The final dark pill reverses the page colours and is the only strong contrast in the bar.

The signature component

The signature is a split editorial feature. One rounded, linked panel, 1300px by 715px, has a short 383px text column on the left with a 22px heading, a muted 22px supporting line at 60% opacity and an orange link, and a large multi-pane interface preview on the right. The panel fill is a slightly darker warm neutral than the page, and the whole panel is a link.

Type and colour decisions

A neutral sans. The page is rgb(247,247,244), the text is rgb(38,37,30), the secondary pill fill is rgb(230,229,224) and the feature panel is rgb(242,241,237). The link accent is orange, rgb(245,78,0). That is nearly all the colour; the preview image provides the rest.

What changes on a phone

At 390px the header is 56px and the heading drops to 24px. Only one dark action remains. The image is 353px by 720px with cover cropping, and at the bottom of the screen only about 505px of it is visible. The captured phone nav is expanded: five large links at about 34px each fill the area under the header.

What the capture does not tell us

Hover appearance, the panel's destination and the picture's motion are unknown. The spec mentions a shimmer animation on a preview element but says its visible effect is not established, and the menu's dismissal behaviour is not shown.

What to steal (the pattern, not the look)

A calm headline plus a very large picture can feel more confident than a loud headline. Use warm neutrals for the page and one hot accent for links, and let the tinted panel colour, not borders or shadows, separate a feature from the page.

Get the free Cursor design spec

We keep a longer craft spec for this page: hero, navigation and signature component, with the measured sizes, a list of what not to copy and checks you can run. It is free to download as a Markdown file, and you can use it as a pattern guide for your own site. It describes layout and proportion, so use your own name, wording and imagery. If you want a site built around the same pattern, give the spec to iter0 and it will build you an original page from it.

Put the brief into practice

A launch page should make the buyer, promise, proof, and next action obvious. iter0 uses this same standard when it turns a brief or reference site into a builder-ready page.
